So 6 weeks ago, my retina detached and I had to have emergency laser to reattach it. I am thankful that we caught in time and that no sight was lost! In the meantime, I had to sleep sitting up and couldn't do any exercise...not even walking. Those of you who know me well, know that walking is my outlet...more than exercise, it helps me clear my head. That said, I've been going a little stir crazy!
So, I decided to kick start my walking again by walking a marathon a week for 4 weeks and to bring attention to a not-so-well known ministry of Wheeler Mission...their Women's Shelter. Will you join me? I need 32 people who will donate between $1 and $32 (i.e. $1, $2, $3...$30, $31, $32) This will raise $500 but if I get 50, we will collectively raise $1,275!
I have spent many hours in this facility over the years, as it used to be the youth center and I volunteered there and even moved to the neighborhood to be closer to the kids we worked with. Wheeler has been a very important place to me. It taught me to see people through a different lens, it taught me to see myself differently and what I have to offer to others. It was a source of deep relationships with adults and kids alike that are still going strong to this day. I am thankful for the work that Wheeler does and am excited that they are launching a campaign to expand the services they are able to offer to women and children in our community.
Will you join me in supporting their efforts to help change the lives of even more women in our community?
What a great cause to support. And I certainly want to support Katherine's efforts to walk to be healthy. I chose $40 because I did the Mini-Marathon for the last 3 years and that's a total of 39.6 miles - I rounded up.

I took number 13 because that's how old I was when I started volunteering with Wheeler. Love what they do, the people they serve and the people I was able to serve with!
