Imagine what it would be like to have a school where 72% of the school population was in the free and reduced lunch program and a large percent are in foster care. Imagine the work that teachers need to do to knit their very diverse and constantly changing class together in a way that benefits all and creates a positive learning environment. Can we help? I know we can. This fund raiser is to raise at least $750 for tee shirts for the teachers of Merrillville Intermediate School. This is how Kelley East describes the need: "Last year, my sis stepped down as assistant superintendent in her school district to go back to being with children hands-on as a principal at Merrillville Intermediate School. 66% of the students are foster children and on free meals (the largest percentage in the state) and they rank as a "D" school.
I have been working with my sister in coming up with a vision statement for the teachers. And they came up with: Every student. Every Day. Whatever it takes! It is her intention to change the culture of the school to where each student knows they matter...and so do the teachers!
For the first day of school next week, she hired a DJ for the kids, has donuts and coffee for the parents, balloons and such. She also has a vision of giving each teacher a t-shirt with their vision statement on it, and she would like for it to be a surprise! The cost is $750. She asked me if I knew of anyone that would be willing to sponsor in full or in-part the purchase of the T- shirts."

I know that teachers and principals don't have it easy today, but this one in particular realized her students have it even harder! Love her passion and commitment to inspire her team of teachers and her students!!
